Becoming a TWB partner

 

Translators without Borders envisions a world in which life-saving knowledge knows no language barriers.  We work with a global network of translators to provide professional translations to non-profit organizations working in humanitarian assistance, helping those most in need. Translators without Borders only partners with NGOs that share the TWB vision and mission.

The TWB Non-profit Organization Charter

Organizations eligible for translation support are those that:

  • Engage in activities related to:
    • Support to vulnerable people
    • Advancement of social and community welfare
    • Advancement of culture
    • Advancement of the natural environment
    • Other purposes beneficial to the community
    • Health services & related activities
  • Are an independent body established by a group of private individuals or organizations, and governed by an independent, voluntary, and active board of directors
  • Have non-governmental, non-profit legal status in its country of incorporation and that are able to provide a registration number
  • Non-partisan: operate without discrimination in regard to race, nationality, gender, political or religious conviction or social and economic background
  • Have human rights/humanitarian programs and/or activities that are consistent with the mission and vision of Translators without Borders
  • Have a record of financial responsibility and accountability, including audited accounts.
  • Have a record of accomplishing its objectives
  • Acknowledge, in writing, that they are not listed on the UN Security Council List, neither are its affiliates or any of their individuals
  • Demonstrate, in all relevant situations, a commitment to:
    • INGO Charter or Collaboration with other NGOs and/or partner agencies, in line with the Principles of Partnership of the Global Humanitarian Platform
    • Where relevant, humanitarian principles, including the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and NGOs in Disaster Relief
    • Prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse as guided by the Statement of Commitment on Eliminating Sexual Exploitation and Abuse by UN and Non-UN Personnel
    • Quality and accountability in humanitarian/development action, including use of the Sphere Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Disaster Response where applicable
  • Religious organizations, registered as a charity, with a secular community designation that is separate from the church or religious organization that provides services to people regardless of their religious beliefs, and does not propagate a belief in a specific faith. Example: A food bank with charity status that is run by a church, but is a separate and unique organization that provides food and meals to anyone who qualifies for services, regardless of religious beliefs. N.B. Religious or faith-based organizations may be asked further questions to validate their application according to these criteria

Documents eligible for translation are those that:

  • Have a clear humanitarian/development purpose that will help aid workers in crises, health or education or will be directly used by vulnerable people
  • Will be openly available without charge (some exceptions)

The following types of organizations are NOT eligible:

  • Religious organizations without a secular community designation
  • Commerce and trade associations without charitable aims or activities
  • Political, labor or fraternal organizations
  • Museums/libraries/zoos
  • Organizations that advocate, support, or practice discrimination based on age, ethnicity, gender, national origin, disability, race, size, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background. Organizations must be willing and able to attest that they do not discriminate on any of these grounds in order to apply.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

TWB does not translate:

  • Legal documents or provide legal translations
  • Fundraising documents
  • Lobbying or campaigning documents
  • Human Resources documents
