Mirko Plitt appointed TWB’s Head of Technology

July 1, 2016 by TWB Communications

DANBURY, CT USA – 16 June 2016. Mirko Plitt appointed TWB’s Head of Technology.

Mirko Plitt, one of the foremost experts in the industrial use of machine translation and other language technologies has joined Translators without Borders (TWB) as Head of Technology.  TWB strives to find innovative technology solutions that can help provide people with vital information in their language. The appointment of Mirko Plitt as TWB Head of Technology will empower TWB to explore how technology can be used to effectively improve communications with people affected by crisis. Mirko’s extensive experience in senior roles in the field of translation and localization will be a great asset to TWB.

“Language technology can play a big role in humanitarian response. What’s really great about machine translation, for example, is that it enables communication and access to information in situations in which the traditional translation model isn’t as effective, in addition to enhancing how TWB supports volunteer translators. I am convinced that TWB can be a catalyzer in the dissemination of language technology beyond mature markets, and grow into the language industry’s pivotal partner for innovative humanitarian actors. These goals define the core of my new role.”

“We are thrilled to have Mirko on board,” said Aimee Ansari, Executive Director of TWB. “Technology plays an ever more important role in humanitarian work because it lets us do things that simply were not possible before, particularly if you think of the languages and language pairs that matter most in the context of humanitarian work. Mirko will lead TWB’s efforts to make effective and appropriate use of technology.”
