NEW YORK, NY – 23 May 2018. Morningside Translations, the fastest growing major language service provider in North America, is pleased to announce its Gold-level sponsorship of Translators without Borders (TWB), a non-profit that works to “close the language gaps that hinder humanitarian efforts worldwide.” Morningside’s sponsorship will help TWB provide translation services that support humanitarian and international development efforts, and support TWB’s vision of “creating a world where knowledge knows no language barriers.”
TWB works to provide people around the globe with access to vital, often life-saving, information in a language that they can understand. Since 2011, TWB has translated almost 60 million words in over 250 language pairs in the areas of crisis relief, health, and education. The organization has responded to urgent crises by using its Words of Relief service, working with partners to provide vital information in the appropriate languages to those affected by emergencies such as the Ebola outbreak in Africa and the Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh.
The financial support provided by TWB sponsors is critical to sustaining and growing the language-focused non-profit organization. “In the course of our work, we’ve become aware of the huge need for vulnerable people to be able to access global knowledge in their language,” explains Aimee Ansari, Executive Director of TWB. “Mobile technology may be bringing more people information, but with marginalized languages, we still need to bridge the ‘language last mile’.”
“We hope our collaboration with Translators without Borders will fund much-needed programs, provide life-changing opportunities, and help deliver lasting change,” said Tom Klein, Co-CEO of Morningside. “We are proud to partner with an organization that delivers tangible benefits to communities across the world.”
Aimee Ansari adds: “We are incredibly grateful to Morningside Translations for this assistance, which is critical to enable us, in turn, to support more humanitarian work around the globe.”
About Translators without Borders
Translators without Borders (TWB) envisions a world where knowledge knows no language barriers. The US-based non-profit provides people access to vital knowledge in their language by connecting non-profit organizations with a community of language professionals, building local language translation capacity, and raising awareness of language barriers. Originally founded in 1993 in France (as Traducteurs sans Frontières), TWB translates millions of words of life-saving and life-changing information a year. In 2013, TWB created the first-ever crisis relief translation service, Words of Relief, which has responded to crises every year since.
